Plant Exosomes in Hair Care: The Science Behind Luxury Exo Cells

Innovatis has spent over a decade refining hair care through caviar extract, plasma science and plant stem cells. The new Luxury Exo Cells range introduces plant exosome technology to our professional line. This post explains what exosomes are, which actives the range uses, what the published research on those actives actually shows, and how honest we can be about what that means.

What are exosomes?

Exosomes are nano-sized vesicles: tiny packages that cells produce to carry signals to other cells. They are not cells themselves. They are closer to a postal service between cells, carrying proteins, peptides and genetic material from one place to another.

Plant-derived exosomes have become one of the most actively researched areas in cosmetic scalp science over the past decade, because they offer a way to deliver plant signalling molecules to the scalp in a stable, concentrated form.

The two actives in Luxury Exo Cells

Exo Cells is built on two patented actives developed by Vytrus Biotech, a plant-biotechnology laboratory based in Spain.

Capilia Longa is derived from the callus of turmeric (Curcuma longa). It won a Beauty Industry Award in 2019 and is among the most closely studied plant-exosome actives in professional hair care.

Centella Reversa is derived from Centella asiatica, a plant long used in skincare, and comes from the same laboratory.

What the published research shows

Vytrus Biotech has published efficacy research on Capilia Longa. In a single-blind, placebo-controlled study, 40 volunteers aged 18 to 60 applied a Capilia Longa formulation to the scalp once daily over 150 days. The laboratory reports an average increase in hair density of approximately 17 per cent, with individual results ranging considerably higher.

Two things are worth being straightforward about.

First, this research was carried out by the ingredient developer on the active itself, not by Innovatis on the finished Exo Cells formulation. That is entirely standard in cosmetic science, where actives are licensed to many brands, but it means the figures describe what the ingredient has been shown to do under test conditions rather than a guaranteed outcome from any one product.

Second, that study used daily application across five months, which is a longer and more frequent regimen than a standard Exo Cells course.

We would rather set that out plainly than quote a headline percentage at you. If you want to read the underlying material, Vytrus publishes it directly: Capilia Longa and Centella Reversa.

Who the range is for

Exo Cells is formulated for hair that looks thinner, flatter or less dense than it used to, and for scalps that feel congested or uncomfortable. It is a cosmetic range intended to improve the look, feel and condition of hair. It is not a medicine and is not a treatment for medical hair loss. If you are worried about sudden or patchy loss, please speak to a GP or a trichologist first.

The products

Luxury Exo Cells Shampoo 250ml is the daily first step. It cleanses without stripping and prepares the scalp for the lotion.

Luxury Exo Cells Shampoo 1 Litre is the salon backbar format of the same formula.

Luxury Exo Cells Lotion 5x10ml is the concentrated treatment: five single-dose ampoules applied directly to the scalp and left in.

How to use the routine

Wash with the Exo Cells Shampoo, massaging into the scalp and leaving for two minutes before rinsing. Towel-dry, then apply one lotion ampoule section by section across the scalp. Massage in and do not rinse. Follow the course as directed.

Common questions

Is this suitable for colour-treated hair? Yes. The range is formulated for professional salon use alongside colour services.

How long before I see a difference? Hair changes slowly. Any cosmetic routine of this kind is a matter of months rather than weeks, and consistency matters more than intensity.

Can salons stock Exo Cells? Yes. Innovatis distributes directly in the UK, and trade accounts include backbar sizes, launch training and marketing support. Get in touch to open an account.
